Dear neighbor: On Thursday, September 15, 2005 we will be holding a reception to honor Ax the Tax and specifically our 2005 Jefferson Award recipient; The Honorable Randy Johnson, Florida House of Representatives and Chairman of the Growth Management Committee.
Rep. Johnson has distinguished himself as an outstanding advocate for taxpayers and consumers during his seven years in the Florida House. This past year, Randy literally brought to a standstill a $15 billion tax increase. As Chairman of the House Growth Management Committee, Randy said NO to the proposal from the Senate President Tom Lee to raise our taxes and
remove the power of taxpayers to approve local taxes by referendum. This was only one of many instances where Randy has put taxpayers interests above those of the vested special interests. So rare is it today in public office to have a true advocate for the people!
Randy Johnson has now decided to seek the position of Florida Chief Financial Officer, one of Florida’s most powerful political positions. With election to this post as a member of the Florida Cabinet, Randy will be able to serve us as a consumer advocate and hold the bureaucracy accountable to taxpayers.
I have personally contributed to the Randy Johnson Campaign fund and I urge you to also. I’ve enclosed a commitment pledge form for you to return in the self-addressed envelope provided or you can bring a check with you to the Ax the Tax Reception on Thursday, September 15th at the Gaylord and give it to Rep. Johnson personally.
According to Florida law, all personal contributions less than $250 are matched thereby increasing the importance of individual contributions and more importantly decreasing the influence of the vested special interests. Please join me in personally contributing any amount up to $250.
