City will fight commuter rail
CENTRAL FLORIDA THE AREA IN BRIEF

November 17, 2005

EDGEWOOD -- The Edgewood City Council voted Tuesday to fight the proposed Central Florida commuter-rail plan and advised its city attorney to explore legal options to challenge it.

In August, Orange County commissioners expressed support for the proposed commuter train through Central Florida if freight trains can be diverted around Orlando to clear the tracks.

The $473 million commuter train, to be paid for by area counties and state and federal funds, would run from southern Volusia County to Orlando by 2009, and from Osceola County to Orlando by 2011.

Edgewood officials said residents are concerned that the commuter train passing through their community would add to traffic congestion rather than relieve it, City Attorney Virginia Cassady said.
